Scam Calls and Messages in 2024

Scam calls and messages are more common than ever. Scammers pretend to be hiring managers offering high-paying work-from-home jobs or delivery agents to trick you into giving away your personal information. Their goal? To steal your money or digital identity.

Three Steps to Secure Your Accounts:

1. Report Scam Numbers:

  • Don’t just block scam numbers—report them too.
  • Blocking stops the scammer from contacting you again, but reporting helps others avoid the scam.
  • Use caller ID services like Truecaller to report numbers as fraud.
  • You can also report numbers directly within apps like SMS and WhatsApp.

2. Stay Alert and Monitor Your Accounts:

  • Don’t engage with scam calls or messages.
  • Keep an eye on your financial accounts and digital activity for anything unusual.
  • If you notice suspicious activity, contact your bank or the relevant service immediately.
  • Change your credit/debit card passwords right away if you suspect they are compromised. Consider canceling the card and getting a new one if necessary.

3. Change Your Passwords Immediately:

  • If a scammer tries to access your accounts, change your passwords right away.
  • Log out of all devices and re-login with the new password.
  • Set up two-factor authentication (2FA) if you haven’t already. This adds an extra layer of security, ensuring that even if a scammer gets your password, they can’t access your account without a one-time password (OTP).

By following these steps, you can help keep your accounts secure and contribute to a safer digital environment for everyone.
