In the main event of UFC 309, Jon Jones showed why he’s considered the greatest of all time. He successfully defended his heavyweight title and sent Stipe Miocic into retirement.
After dominating the first two rounds, Jones finished the fight in the third with a spinning backkick, winning by TKO.
Jones’ performance earned him one of the three individual Performance of the Night awards.
After the fight, the 42-year-old Miocic announced his retirement. He seemed slow and past his prime compared to Jones, making some wonder if he should have been fighting Jones at all.
Despite the loss, Miocic retires as one of the greatest heavyweights ever.
In the co-main event, Charles Oliveira won a unanimous decision over Michael Chandler in their rematch. The fight was exciting throughout, but the fifth round was particularly memorable.
Oliveira controlled the first four rounds, but Chandler landed a huge right hand in the fifth, putting Oliveira in trouble. However, Oliveira recovered, took Chandler’s back, and created a memorable moment.
